What Is an Anti-Raid Base in Rust?

Anti-raid bases use smart design to raise the cost of raiding them. Here's what the feature means and what to look for.

An anti-raid base is built to make raiding it as expensive and slow as possible. Every design choice — honeycomb depth, TC placement, external coverage — is there to drain raiders before they reach your loot.

What does anti-raid actually mean?

Raiders always look for the cheapest path to your loot. Anti-raid design closes those paths.

A strong anti-raid base does most of these things:

  • Forces raiders to choose between two expensive options — break walls, or grind through the door path
  • Uses honeycomb to add extra wall layers between the outer shell and core
  • Has a high minimum raid cost — the cheapest path to loot is still painful
  • Protects the TC so raiders can't claim your base after they breach
  • Makes it hard or impossible for raiders to grub in from nearby

Anti-raid isn't a single feature. It's a design philosophy applied to the whole base.

What are the main anti-raid features?

High minimum raid cost

The cheapest path to your loot should hurt. If raiders reach your core with six rockets and some explosive ammo, the base isn't anti-raid.

Good anti-raid bases make both the wall path and the door path expensive. Raiders have to pick their poison — neither is cheap.

Most solid solo bases aim for 15+ rockets to reach loot. Competitive group bases push 25–40+.

Honeycomb

Honeycomb is the most common anti-raid tool. It adds extra empty rooms between the outer shell and the core.

Each extra stone wall layer costs raiders 4 more rockets from the hard side. Metal walls cost 8. Stack a few layers and the raid cost climbs fast.

Most meta bases run one to three walls of honeycomb depth. Some go deeper.

Grub resistance

A grub is a raider who builds a small foothold base right next to yours. From there, they chip in over time — no rush, no commitment, just patience.

A grub-resistant base has TC coverage that extends far enough to deny foundations nearby. Raiders can't place a twig down without landing inside your build privilege zone.

The key is wide coverage through external TCs placed strategically around the base. If a raider can't build close to you, they can't grub you.

On busy servers, grub resistance often matters more than raw rocket cost.

Disconnectable external TCs

A disconnectable TC is placed with a twig structure nearby. Break that twig, and the external disconnects — its upkeep coverage drops.

Here's why this matters: if raiders blow your main TC, they claim your build privilege. You can't place or repair inside your own base.

With a disconnectable external, you can reconnect after a raid. That restores build privilege so you can replace the main TC and rebuild.

Most base designers include two external TCs. One or both are usually disconnectable.

Bunkered TCs

A TC inside a bunker is expensive to reach. Raiders have to pay the full bunker cost just to get to your TC — before the main raid even starts.

This slows them down and gives you more time to log on and defend.

What makes a base NOT anti-raid?

Some bases look tough but have soft spots:

  • Exposed soft sides on outer walls — raiders skip the hard entry entirely
  • Short door path to core — one or two doors between outside and loot is fast to bypass
  • No external TCs — lose the main TC, lose build privilege with no backup
  • Small TC coverage area — grubs can build right up to your walls

Is an anti-raid base the same as a bunker base?

No. A bunker base creates a one-way barrier using a wall-floor gap. It's a powerful anti-raid tool — but it's one piece of a larger picture.

You can build a strong anti-raid base with deep honeycomb, wide TC coverage, and disconnectable externals — no bunker required.

The best anti-raid designs usually combine multiple features.
